The Department of Ecology and Environmental Science at Gurucharan University, Silchar, is an integral constituent of the Faculty of Science, dedicated to fostering academic excellence and promoting environmental stewardship. Established in the year 2011, during the period when the institution functioned as Gurucharan College, the department has progressively evolved into a recognized centre for undergraduate education and scholarly engagement in ecology and environmental science.
The department currently offers an ongoing Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUGP) in Ecology and Environmental Science, aligned with modern educational frameworks. In addition, it has recently introduced Postgraduate (PG) and Ph.D. programmes, expanding its academic scope and research potential in emerging areas of environmental science.
The curriculum is designed to provide a strong foundation in ecological principles, environmental management, and sustainability, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical training. Teaching and mentoring are carried out by a dedicated team of qualified faculty members who emphasize experiential learning through fieldwork, project-based assignments, and environmental awareness initiatives.
